Where- Darling Gardens, South Terrace and Gold Street, Clifton Hill.

A picnic with a Chess Challenge and tourney. Continuing the tradition of competition between the Baronies of Stormhold & Krae Glas.

Tourney rules are:
Round 1 – Pawns: Everyone to fight with sharpened sticks (i.e. thrusting spears)
Round 2 – Knights: Counted Blows (each fighter gets to throw five blows or three good blows with arms & legs not lost).
Round 3 – Bishops: Maces and shields.
Round 4 – Rooks: Sword and large shield (defence)
Round 5 – Queens: Queens are the best protected and each combatant fights with two guardsmen drawn at random, fight to end with the death of the “queen”.
Round 6- Kings: All fighters take to the field to defend the last two combatants or “Kings”.
To be repeated until there is a winner.

Heavy fighters, please bring along any extra weapons and shields for this wide ranging style tourney.

Rapier fighters are currently at 4, but please email me on miriam.staples@gmail.com to express interest. A list keeper is also needed for both tourneys.

The Barony of Stormhold's Arts and Sciences Champion is also to be decided. The theme is Pets, Animals, and Otherworldly Creatures.

Examples of what to enter are:An embroidered image of your pet or favourite creature, a poem or song about your pet or favourite creature, wool spun or dyed to match your pet's fur. artwork depicting a strange creature, like an elephant etc.

The only requirement is that anything is welcome, at any skill or level, as long as you can demonstrate in your written explanation how your entry links to the period and the theme. Please submit a physical item that meets the theme. For example, if you would like to submit an abstract item like a song, please submit a written version with your documentation. Submit written documentation of how your entry fits the theme. Include in your written explanation the following:
- State if you are beginner, intermediate, or expert in your chosen field and how long you have been practicing the particular skill of your entry.
- Information linking your entry to historical examples.
- An outline of your creative thought process in creating your item, eg. why you chose those particular materials to work with.
Your written explanation should be between half an A4 page and two full A4 pages to support your entry.

Finally, the Game of Chess between Stormhold and Krae Glas. Who will be victorious?

Participants are reminded that if they are unwell or showing cold or flu-like symptoms, they must not attend.
