Salvete et io Saturnalia omnes!
This year we will be running a Saturnalia event instead of our usual final crafthall of the year.
This event is based on the ancient Roman winter festival which venerated the god Saturn (Kronos for any Greek fans out there). Saturnalia was a time for revelry, where societal rules were temporarily disregarded, and roles in society reversed. This year in honour of the Roman tradition, there will be a craft station for making things for gift giving, a king of shenanigans, and board games!
This will be a POTLUCK so please bring your own food and drink, Roman themed food highly encouraged!
There will be awarded a 'Saturnalia Princeps'. This is the ‘Prince/Ruler/Emperor of Saturnalia’, who presides over the shenanigans at the event, as was done in the Roman Empire.
This is akin to a court jester sitting on the throne – someone who is selected to be the highest authority, and gives anyone and everyone funny tasks, orders, or ideas to propagate shenanigans.
The number one rule of dealing with the Saturnalia Princeps is that you are allowed to say no. If you are uncomfortable, unable, or simply do not want to do the thing that is asked of you, you should say no and the Princeps will respect this.
If you would like to be Saturnalia Princeps, or nominate someone for the role, you must book prior to the event. |
