Ummm - I suspect reply-to = the shambles is roughly the same as reply-to =
dev/null.
As it stands, replies will go to the list. That just means that if
nico@jeremygregson.com mailto:nico@jeremygregson.com replies to a post
the kingdom seneschal put on lochac-announce, an email goes to
lochac-announce from nico.
People who are not moderated in the list settings would have their replies
automatically released, all others would be moderated. Your existing
moderator settings would be honoured.

I don't mind this, but I'm worried about announce. I would like a setting
there that says "all replies are moderated" because we would like to NOT
moderate some people . and that makes replies our curse. Can we use the
reply-to setting in the list? I would like announce to be reply-to: the
shambles . is that a suitable alternative?

Houston, I suspect we have a winner.
The message makes it to my gmail account with all headers showing google is
happy with the authentication. The only sender shown, and the only place I
can send a reply, is the list itself. If we turn this setting on for most
of our lists, the messages should get to everyone, and:
With lochac-announce, anyone attempting to reply will go to the list and be
moderated according to its rules
For pelicans, etc, replies will go the list and thus all members
For group lists, like ynys-fawr, it will be up to the moderators to decide.
It means that you can't see from the sender details who posted the original
message to the list (it doesn't appear as coming from nico via selenetest,
just from selenetest), but that is possibly a good thing. Provided people
sign their messages with their names, which I am pretty sure they generally
do, this would work.

Personalize is set back to 'off', anonymous list is set on.
